Photographing Amanda Knox - Seattle Storytelling Photographer
PHOTOGRAPHING AMANDA KNOX
From Imprisoned by Injustice and media hatred -to finding love, motherhood and freedom.
It’s been a decade since we did this photoshoot. It was resurrected by Amanda and her amazing husband because the two of them made an amazing documentary about Amanda’s return to Italy to confront Giuliano Mignini, the prosecutor who wrongfully convicted her. Directed by her husband, Christopher Robinson, the film focuses on her pursuit of closure, accountability, and confronting her past.
I was so truly touched by the documentary in ways that I did not expect. I highly recommend checking this out. It touches on one of the hardest yet most rewarding aspects of being a human- FORGIVENESS.
It also gives an intimate and beautiful glimpse into the love story between her and her husband and beautiful children. They used one of these old images re-edited as the cover of the documentary. Lucky me!
Many of you already know this story. In 2007, Amanda Knox was a student studying abroad in Perugia when her roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found murdered in their shared apartment. Amanda and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were arrested and charged with the crime. The case quickly drew massive international media attention, partly because of conflicting evidence, cultural differences, and intense scrutiny of Knox’s behavior. Knox’s case became a global media phenomenon. She was portrayed in dramatically different ways. Her story is intense, and you can read it in her memoir “Waiting to be Heard”
Amanda Knox’s story is often discussed as an example of how complex criminal cases can become when media attention, cultural differences, and legal uncertainty collide.
It remains one of the most widely followed international criminal cases of the 21st century.
Amanda has also released new music that is featured in Mouth of the Wolf and they used some of these images for the video which I will link at the end. One of the most beautiful parts of the film for me was when she was singing just raw emotion -no fancy studio. What a beautiful voice.
I also got to photograph Amanda’s Wedding. It was a surreal, sci-fi, costume party that was more of an experience right at the cusp of Covid times. It was an amazing night!
“I never thought to look into the mirror 'til
My life became a funhouse
I never used to wear a costume
Of myself
I saw myself become erased
When I was printed on a page
I felt so small
And when my face lit up Times Square
I felt two-dimensional
They say I'm just for show
I'll prove them wrong, it's my addiction
My shape inside another's eyes
Is stranger than nonfiction”
Amanda Knox How Strange it is
