Studio or In Home Newborn Session-Seattle Newborn Photographer
I loved this snuggle session. There’s nothing like the awe and love of new parents. This studio has earthy colors with a city vibe. It’s in Pioneer Square, Seattle- and it’s one of two studios that I rent for shooting. There are two flights of stairs to get up to this spot. But I also want to talk about newborn sessions in your home.
This baby was just 10 days old, and around that time they start feeding a ton so they can be a little more hungry during the shoot, so I try to document them before 10 days, but I am not super picky on that.
You can probably find a nice textured earthy tone sweater in your closet, and find a earth toned blanket for the babe. Even a light tee or tank top can work if your comfortable. Etsy has a ton of these cute blankets too( links at the end). Also, if you can swaddle it’s a bonus! It keeps the baby calm and their hands out of their face:) I do not handle newborns I leave it up to you.
If we shoot in your home, we may use a bedroom or anywhere with good window light. Do not worry about having a clean house, we can move things out of the way as needed. You just had a baby! If you have a yard we can pop outside for a few.
My approach to photographing newborns is an organic natural approach. I suggest you wear solid natural colors so that when your holding your baby, they are the main focus. No busy patterns or bright unnatural colors. You can be as causal or fancy as you want. I am here to capture your connection with your new baby and your family. Sleeping baby shots are super cute, but they are cute no matter what they do:) I block off 90 minutes for this session, but if all goes smoothly we could be done a little early.
Take your time for the shoot, if they baby needs to feed we just take a break!
Be sure if you have a onezie for the babe that it fits. They can often look very frumpy:) Make sure the room is warm. Babies also love white noise.
Stay tuned, I share my latest in home newborn session at the end!
How to Prepare for a Studio Newborn Photoshoot:
A studio or in home newborn photoshoot is all about softness, simplicity, and connection. Choosing the right colors helps keep the focus where it belongs — on your baby and the love surrounding them. That’s where earth tones come in. They especially look great in this studio. That being said, these two wore what they wanted, and that works too.
Earth tones create a calm, timeless feel. Shades like warm beige, soft browns, creamy whites, muted greens, and gentle clay tones photograph beautifully under studio or window light. They reflect warmth without distraction and allow your newborn’s natural features — tiny fingers, rosy cheeks, sleepy stretches — to truly shine. Add a blanket in these tones for the baby and we are winning.
When planning outfits, think comfort first. Simple, neutral clothing without bold patterns or logos keeps the images feeling peaceful and cohesive. Soft fabrics and layers add texture without overwhelming the frame. Parents and siblings don’t need to match exactly — staying within a similar earth-toned palette creates harmony while still letting everyone feel like themselves.
Earth tones also age gracefully. Years from now, your images will still feel natural and classic, not tied to a trend. They hold space for emotion, connection, and those fleeting early days that pass far too quickly.
Most importantly, arrive ready to slow down. Newborn sessions are gentle and unhurried. Trust the process, cuddle your baby, and let the softness of the space — and the colors you’ve chosen — support a calm, beautiful experience.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LEARN TO SWADDLE AND CUDDLE YOUR BABE!
This family also did a maternity y shoot! I love documenting these beautiful stories from the beginning.
Maternity and Newborn sessions are $1100 each, I take a 200 deposit to hold your date, and the rest is due the day we shoot. You get 15-20 sneak peeks the day after our session, and my turn around time varies but is usually 4-6 weeks. When I am finished you get a gallery that has options to print professionally. There are books, framed prints, glass box full of prints, all kinds of cool things to order right from your gallery. You can design an order a book, or I can design one for you.
Latest in home newborn session below! We did most of the shoot in their bedroom.
