What to expect from your in-home newborn session.

What should you expect when preparing for me to come to your home to photograph your new baby?

Well I love to photograph the newborn sleeping if possible, but I don’t go as far as some others with that. I like the more organic feel of the new baby at home. So if we get sleepy, yay!

I love a good simple swaddle with not a lot of pattern (depends on the pattern)

I don’t usually photograph a newborn in clothes, but if someone knitted something, by all means.

YES I would love mom and dad to be in the photos. A simple tank top is my favorite. I love the feels of lots of skin.

SPACEHEATER - if you don’t have one I will bring one. We will keep the baby nice and warm by whichever window light I find to use.

I don’t bring props- minus a few simple blankets and sometimes a bean bag. If you have a girl and want bows or headbands just make sure they fit. Those can be huge, awkward or distract from the cute baby face.

I love pretty blankets so keep that in mind as the months come to our shoot- feel free to send photos. And yes, I do edit skin on everyone where needed.

I expect lots of feeding/changing to happen so don’t sweat that part.

Let’s allow two hours max on the shoot- but I often get done in one hour depending on the mood of our little one. Don’t worry about a messy kitchen or anything like that- I usually shoot in a small space by a window and I MAY ASK TO MOVE THINGS :)

Also- the sooner they are here the better! They change fast so lets try to get them before 8 days old if possible.

Most of all- no stress!

What’s next? 6 month shoot of course!

Outdoor Maternity & Indoor Newborn Shoot

Words cannot explain the joy that documenting the process of bringing life into the world brings me. Maternity and newborn shoots are just that.

Emily and Mike tried for many years to start a family. Just when they were about to give up,….TWINS!!

This is an example of an outdoor maternity photo shoot bundled with an in-home newborn session.

We hiked Rattlesnake Ledge, North Bend WA, when Emily was six months pregnant (she was a little bigger due to twins so we did it earlier than usual)

As soon as the family of FOUR got home and settled in, I popped over with my camera, found some good window light, and I fell in love with some babies.

A beautiful Seattle Wedding, Gasworks Park.

I love nothing more than photographing an adventurous pacific northwest couple.

These two are absolutely lovely. We had such a blast at Gasworks Park here in Seattle making these memories. They were very nervous they would not know how to pose. I told them, relax and let me do the work. Have fun and snuggle, just be you. Take a walk and enjoy the moment.

This part of the wedding is my favorite, capturing the couple in all of their love glory.

Creative Session at Schmitz Park with The Falconer Seattle

This shoot was a dream come true for me. For once, I honestly felt as though the beauty of the experience outweighed the photographs. Holding that beautiful owl -and looking into her eyes was an experience I would never trade for anything.

Although this was styled and dreamed up by me, I have to give THE FALCONER a ton credit. He loves these birds. He also has a vulture that I would love to meet. Next time perhaps.
