We started shooting early on Alki Beach. I asked if it was okay to break the session up and head to a tiny little viewpoint West Seattle park just up the road. The beach is pretty bright for shooting if your not there for sunrise or sunset. This way the family session had both the lovely beach and the more woodsy feels that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. West Seattle is full of location ideas like this, just ask! Lincoln Park and Lowman Beach are an example of two spots just a minute from each other, and add variety to your family session.
I love this idea.
Erin’s parents are divorced and they both live in Minnesota. They were both set for a Pacific Northwest visit at two different times around Christmas, so Erin booked two family shoots at some awesome PNW locations. I love this idea, again and again.
Why not have some special photographs taken with your parents when your all grown up? The first shoot we did in the freezing pouring rain up at Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend, Washington. We toughed it out and it was well worth it.
Now Erin’s mom is not a fan of the cold, so we went to the Volunteer Park Conservatory. This place is GORGEOUS and so is Erin’s love for her parents.
This Seattle family photographer is up for any Pacific Northwest Adventure with you!
What should you expect when preparing for me to come to your home to photograph your new baby?
Well I love to photograph the newborn sleeping if possible, but I don’t go as far as some others with that. I like the more organic feel of the new baby at home. So if we get sleepy, yay!
I love a good simple swaddle with not a lot of pattern (depends on the pattern)
I don’t usually photograph a newborn in clothes, but if someone knitted something, by all means.
YES I would love mom and dad to be in the photos. A simple tank top is my favorite. I love the feels of lots of skin.
SPACEHEATER - if you don’t have one I will bring one. We will keep the baby nice and warm by whichever window light I find to use.
I don’t bring props- minus a few simple blankets and sometimes a bean bag. If you have a girl and want bows or headbands just make sure they fit. Those can be huge, awkward or distract from the cute baby face.
I love pretty blankets so keep that in mind as the months come to our shoot- feel free to send photos. And yes, I do edit skin on everyone where needed.
I expect lots of feeding/changing to happen so don’t sweat that part.
Let’s allow two hours max on the shoot- but I often get done in one hour depending on the mood of our little one. Don’t worry about a messy kitchen or anything like that- I usually shoot in a small space by a window and I MAY ASK TO MOVE THINGS :)
Also- the sooner they are here the better! They change fast so lets try to get them before 8 days old if possible.
Most of all- no stress!
What’s next? 6 month shoot of course!
I love working with this family. They have a photography business themselves, so they totally know the drill. It doesn’t hurt that they are sweet as pie.
This year we met at Evans Creek Preserve to brave the cold and document some family lovin’.
As they looked over their gallery, they were amazed at the different personalities their children have, and just how much of a ham little Faye is. It’s as if you get little glimpses of the older version of them, which must freaky!
This family session went by in what seemed like 10 minutes, and then they got a gallery of over 100 family photographs to cherish. They are wonder how they will all of these images on the wall… maybe a book this year, or a bigger wall.
Ali had a great idea, WALLPAPER! Who makes that?
Thank you Josh, Ali, Faye, and Luke!
Ok with this family, I can’t even …. First of all, the beautiful mom is from Orcas Island, which is a magical place and explains why she had such a magical creature.
I love what they chose to wear to their Lincoln Park, West Seattle Family photo shoot. The hour went by so fast and I was happy to deliver a gallery full of love, color, light, and dimples!
Lincoln Park is one of my GO TO places to do a family session. It’s big enough to be alone, and I know the park very well.
