Mira The Miracle Baby - Seattle Family Photographer

One year old baby session Seattle

What started out as two….

Melody grew up with a blood disorder and a complicated reproductive situation. She also has a heart shaped uterus and was told that her chances of getting pregnant or carrying a child to full term would be slim. She accepted her fate as a loving auntie and found a loving man who assured her that he was with her for whatever life would bring them.

And then there were three…..

In 2017 Melody became pregnant despite what she was told and always believed to be true. She gave birth to this beautiful (and dare I say magical) little baby girl, Mira Jeanne.

Melody and Taylor, photographing you and your little magic baby and family was such an honor. Mira has such a truly special personality.

Mother Daughter Session - Seattle Portrait Photographer

Seattle-couples-photographer

I love mother daughter sessions. I like to make photographs like I only wish I had with my mother.

Ryanne is a single mamma, and when she saw me do a photo session with another fellow single mom just a few months back, she thought “I need this.” Follow your heart.

Although I don’t have kids of my own, I realize that parenthood- let alone single parenthood- is the most difficult undertaking possible. I also that it must be very empowering as well, and so I’m here to focus on the empowering part. The beauty, the connection, all that you have accomplished such as the beautiful human that you made. You are loving, molding, shaping, teaching, learning from each other every second of every day, connected for life.

What a miracle really.

Family photos are important. You are all pieces of art. This session is very dear to my heart. Thank you Ryanne and Kit. Your are true beauty.

How to do family photos LIKE A BOSS after divorce-Seattle Family Photographer

Hello!

I have a lot of “divorcees” ask me how to do the family photos if you’ve gone through a divorce.

This is totally normal and totally something you can do because the most important thing is that you are still a family after all -so of course we can do this!

seattle-couples- photographer

The session runs about the same as before, except we make more photos of each parent with the kids solo, which we do anyway -to showcase the different personalities and dynamics of all of your relationships.

SO YES YES YES- If your a mom or dad and you booked the shoot, and you want dad/mom to join for the whole shoot or just pop in for a few photos at the beginning or the end, the answer is yes!!! You can absolutely do this. There are no rules to this.

This family is still a full on bad ass unit, but mom and dad are just not together anymore (in that way) however, they will still be forever connected for their girls. I like to think of a family photo shoot as kind of like a mood board, if you think about it. I’m not here to pretend I know everyone’s relationship and I know this is not always an easy situation. But I am just here to tell you this families story and how they deal with the twice yearly family photo sessions. They are truly special humans, and I am so grateful to be their family photographer, no matter what the state of the family is. I love to tell your story.

Like a boss.

Spending time with my soul mate - Montana Family and Wedding Photographer

Every year I go visit my family in Arlee, Montana over the Fouth of July week. Arlee is a small a town about a half hour outside of Missoula. There is not even a stop light, and my phone barely works there, and my favorite human is there- I LOVE IT! The family gets their yearly family photographs made, and Ahri and I have some fun!

My first trip out was to meet my cousin’s first born Ahrianna. We had an immediate bond- and have since been connected literally at the hip for all the days I am ever blessed to be with her.

Over the holiday in Arlee there is a Rodeo and a Pow Wow. Its a really nice walk to get to the events- and Ahri and I enjoy going back and forth and taking photos along the way. We both die inside a little every year for the scared and hurt animals during the rodeo. Ahri is an animal lover like her Auntie.

I love her so much it hurts, maybe you can see that in these photographs?

Summer Family Sessions are in Full Swing - Seattle Family Portrait Photographer

I adore working with this family, and I started with them in the beginning when their oldest was still in the oven for maternity photos.

A lot of moms try to get a photo session for each of their kids on or around their birthday. In fact, I photograph several families this way , twice a year ect.

One way some families cut down on the cost of multiple family sessions per year is to do one full session (60-90 minutes depending) and then one mini session that I offer in October. So we go big on the full family session, sometimes head to the mountains or something a little more epic, and then a nice quick and simple 30 minute session in October before Christmas. This way you have your Christmas card done and you get those missing teeth documented (or whatever milestone) documented that is SO important!

They change so fast. Family Photos are priceless.

I added two photos at the end from this family’s October Mini Session! Check out how much Lilly has changed!

Beautiful Seattle Wedding - Seattle Wedding Photographer

I love a back yard wedding! Getting to meet and work with this couple was like a dream come true, like finding your people!

I will never forget during the speeches when the bride’s sister told the story of how these two found each other. She told the story of Victoria manifesting her man with her mind, right down to his ethnicity and his height. MAGICAL!

Also they have a baby on the way! So this wedding was sort of an early maternity shoot as well! Hot damn, that’s exciting!

Congratulations on your life together V and T! Your growing family is lovely! I can’t wait to meet your baby.

Why you should consider an Adventure Family Photo Session- Seattle Family Photographer

Want to make your family photos super duper memorable and go the extra mile (literally) to make them beautiful?

I have tons of information on what to wear and location ideas for your family photo shoot you guys! Gold Creek Pond is special to this family because Travis (a.k.a dad) grew up coming here with his family, and has fond memories of being here with his father. Not only that there is no hike so most of the work is just an hour drive outside of Seattle. And it’s a lovely drive. Even if you choose a location based on it’s beauty alone- it makes the whole family just a little more pumped when they are there for family photos. Being someplace new and exciting is fun for the kids or if your a couple - you can’t beat this beautiful backdrop.

Things to bring. Snacks, maybe a pretty blanket, bug spray, and a warm and (photographable) coat for the kiddos if you have them. Accessories are always fun too, hats scarves, even flowers.

Thank you to Travis, Kelly, Dylan, and Ragen! I have been photographing this family since the their first born was in the belly for maternity photos- so it is an honor to continue to document them! I love this family!

Montana Family Photos - Seattle and Montana Family Photographer

WARNING- this blog post has way too many photos and it’s about to have way too many words.

I visit my family in Montana every year over the fourth of July. They live in Arlee, Montana and over the fourth they have a yearly rodeo and pow wow. Although the rodeo makes me both excited and very uncomfortable at the same time, the pow wow speaks to my soul.

My family is great, but this little girl (pictured in way too many photos below)is my little soul mate. She is my mother’s sister’s sons daughter. AKA my cousins kiddo, and she calls me “Auntie Dee” Her little brother is maybe one of the cutest little boys I have ever seen in my life. Sorry about the lack of photos of the little guy, but he was a little young to take on these little adventures that Ahri and I went on. I love being with and photographing these kids so much. This year I will be photographing a wedding while I’m in Montana.

Ahrianna and I connected with our love for animals this year. When watching the rodeo, we squeezed hands when the horses fell or the cows were roped- or when the bulls or horses had something tied around them to make them kick. She asked me questions about how come the bulls are kicking? why would they tie a rope around them to hurt them”? She is the sweetest thing.

The last photograph in this blog is hard to look at. The horse was ok, but we were not. I did not know I got that photo until later that night. I took the shot and dropped the camera to gasp in terror that the horse landed so badly.

I decided to blog this trip so that I can compare my new photographs of the family when I get to Montana next month. I cannot wait to see how she has grown.

West Seattle Family Photo Shoot - Seattle Family Photographer

This is a perfect example of what can happen if you have me over to your place for a in-home family photo session here in Seattle.

What can I say, this family is amazing.

We thought we would take advantage of the green space next door for the beginning of our shoot before we began to loose light. An owl was hooting the entire time, LOVE.

We took a walk through the forest, and we ended in the back yard. Mom had wine, and we lit off some smoke bombs. We hung out by the Cadillac and the motorcycle for some fun shots.

I was all sessions to mimic this one, super easy, laid back, in and out of the home- family photo session. My kind of photo shoot. Thanks guys!
